ANOK

There was a cozy stone house in the western seaside village of Gwideok-ri on Jeju Island, which had sheltered from the sea breeze for a long time. Named 'Anok' after the Jeju dialect word for coziness, this small stone house in the seaside village has been a refuge for many residents, preserving simple and warm memories. With the goal of safeguarding the cherished memories, 'Anok' has been gradually filled with elements of water, fire, stone, and scents.

Passing through the large and solid concrete gate, you are greeted by the moist and rough-textured outdoor garden, marking the beginning of a private resting space. The two sections of the space, including dining and lounge areas, have been created with wooden floors made of Goejae (a traditional Korean flooring material) and rough walls made of yellow soil. This design aims to evoke various experiences that allow visitors to feel the long-lasting memories and warmth of 'Anok.'

The building consisting of a spa and a bedroom is designed to provide a relaxing experience with a natural stone indoor bathtub and a charcoal sauna, where one can melt away their fatigue. Beyond the spatial experience, it is curated with meticulous planning to harmonize the space with scents, cozy textures of linen and hanji (traditional Korean paper) fabrics, bedding, curtains, and furniture crafted by skilled artisans. The goal is to leave a lasting impression of 'Anok' that lingers in all five senses. Guests can enjoy warm moments on an outdoor concrete bench through a large window, accompanied by fragrant oak logs.
