Sisao House Jeju는 라이프스타일 케어 브랜드 시사오가 제주에서 처음 선보이는 스테이 프로젝트다. 시사오는 방해받지 않는 시간, 서두르지 않는 여유, 그리고 작은 행복을 즐길 줄 아는 삶의 태도를 중요하게 생각하며, 이러한 철학을 바탕으로 제주의 오래된 집을 만나 새로운 방식의 삶을 제안하는 공간을 완성했다.
이곳은 세월이 고스란히 묻어 있는 제주의 돌집과 50년이 넘은 벽돌집, 목조 지붕의 집, 그리고 소박한 돌창고들이 조용히 자리한 곳이다. 건물들은 자연스럽게 마당과 맞닿아 있고, 가장 깊숙한 곳에는 느릅나무 아래 너럭바위인 ‘빌레’가 존재한다. 제주의 돌 문화와 토속신앙이 어우러진 이 땅을 생명의 기운이 깃든 공간이라 여기며, 시사오라는 브랜드를 통해 그 시간을 존중하고 오늘의 삶을 조심스럽게 얹고자 했다.
스테이에 필요한 공간과 프로그램을 위해 기존의 두 집을 활용하고 두 집과 마당을 연결하는 새로운 두 채의 건물을 증축하였다. 입구에 자리한 돌집은 기존 구조를 최대한 보존하여 대문채로 사용하며, 낮은 천장은 제주의 기후에 순응한 건축적 지혜를 보여준다. 중정을 중심으로 구성된 실내외 라운지는 사계절의 자연을 직접적으로 마주하게 하며, 양옆에 배치된 블랙 콘크리트 건물은 각각 티룸과 다이닝 공간으로 활용된다. 현대적인 재료로 지었지만, 주변의 돌과 자연에 스며들도록 의도하여 조화롭게 배치한다.
침실은 블랙 콘크리트 건물 안쪽에 위치하며, 총 세 개의 방이 서로 다른 분위기의 프라이빗 정원을 향해 열려 있다. 각각의 방은 제주의 자연과 직접 연결되는 감각을 통해 머무는 이로 하여금 보다 깊고 사적인 시간을 경험하게 한다. 이곳은 단순한 숙박 공간이 아닌, 나만의 속도로 자연과 연결되는 삶의 방식을 경험해보길 바랐다.
벽돌집은 이 공간의 하이라이트로, 커다란 욕장으로 구성된다. 욕장에 들어서는 순간 마주하는 후정과 천창에서 내려오는 바람, 따뜻한 온돌 평상은 한국적인 목욕 문화의 정서를 담는다. 시사오는 이 공간에서 일상의 긴장을 풀고 삶의 균형을 회복하는 순간을 경험하게 한다.
공간을 감싸는 세 개의 정원은 시사오 하우스 제주의 또 다른 중심이 된다. 입구에는 무화과와 목련, 다양한 꽃들로 꾸며진 환대의 정원이 손님을 맞이하고, 대문을 지나면 후박나무와 하귤나무, 허브들이 어우러진 중정이 네 채의 집을 잇는다. 욕장을 지나 만나는 빌레 정원은 느릅나무와 현무암, 이끼, 연못이 어우러지며 제주의 생명력을 담은 정원으로 거듭난다. 시사오는 이 다양한 공간과 경험을 통해 일상의 균형을 되찾는 여정을 제안하고, 머무는 이로 하여금 삶의 태도에 대해 다시 생각하게 한다.
Sisao House Jeju is the first stay project presented in Jeju by the lifestyle care brand Sisao. Sisao values an attitude of life that embraces uninterrupted time, unhurried ease, and the ability to appreciate small joys. Based on this philosophy, it encountered an old house in Jeju and reimagined it into a space that proposes a new way of living.
This place is home to an old stone house of Jeju, a brick house over 50 years old with a wooden roof, and several modest stone storage buildings, all quietly settled into the land. The buildings naturally connect with the surrounding yard, and at the deepest point of the site lies a large flat rock—bille—beneath an elm tree. Considered a sacred place in Jeju where the energy of life gathers, this land embodies the island’s stone culture and native beliefs. Through the brand Sisao, we sought to respect the time embedded in this place and carefully layer today’s life upon it.
To accommodate the functions and programs needed for a stay, two existing houses were preserved and two new buildings were added to connect them through the yard. The stone house at the entrance was restored with minimal alteration and now serves as the main gate house. Its low ceiling reflects the architectural wisdom of adapting to Jeju’s climate. The indoor-outdoor lounge, centered around a courtyard, allows guests to directly experience the island’s changing weather and seasons. On either side of the courtyard, two black concrete buildings were constructed—one serving as a tea room and the other as a dining area. Though made of modern materials, these structures were intentionally designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding stone and landscape.
The bedrooms are located deeper inside the black concrete buildings. Each of the three rooms faces its own private garden with a distinct atmosphere. These rooms are designed to allow guests to engage more intimately with the natural surroundings and enjoy their own pace and rhythm. Sisao House is not merely a place to stay, but a space to connect with nature and explore a more mindful way of living.
The highlight of the property is the brick house, which has been transformed into a large bathhouse. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a rear garden view, the cool breeze descending from the skylight, and the warmth of heated floors. These elements come together to reflect Korean bath culture and deliver a sense of everyday healing. This space is intended to offer a moment of relaxation and restoration amidst the flow of daily life.
Three gardens surround and connect the buildings of Sisao House Jeju, becoming another core of the experience. At the entrance, the Garden of Welcome—planted with fig trees, magnolias, and various blooming flowers—greets visitors. Passing through the gate, guests encounter the central courtyard, where camphor trees, Jeju citrus, and herbs blend harmoniously. From every window of the lounge, tea room, and dining room, different views of the courtyard unfold. Beyond the bathhouse lies the Bille Garden, where the original elm tree remains, accompanied by moss-covered basalt and a small pond. This garden has been reborn as a space where the vital energy of Jeju’s nature quietly resides. Through the interplay of four buildings and three gardens, Sisao House Jeju tells a story that connects Jeju’s traditional ways of life with Sisao’s philosophy of balanced living. It offers a journey toward rediscovering everyday harmony and invites guests to reflect on how they live, move, and find contentment.
